BMW has been a constant leader when it comes to electric and hybrid vehicles. With a series of new options becoming available, we’re here to show you what you can expect in the future from the i3, X5, and 3 Series models
Since it first went on sale in 2014, the i3 has provided drivers with an emission-free option with BMW’s signature style. The vehicle has come a long way in the last few years, including a significantly upgraded range and battery in the upcoming 2017 model. Battery capacity has increased by fifty percent, from 22 to 33 kilowatt hours. With this in mind, BMW has stated that the range for the all-electric model will be up to 114 miles.
BMW is making the move to introduce plug-in hybrid options for all of their models, including the 2016 X5 xDrive40e. One of the only notable exterior differences on the X5 hybrid is the door near the front fender where the charge port is located. What’s notably affected is the SAV’s performance. The plug-in reaches a total of 309 horsepower, can go up to 19 miles on an electric charge, and can reach a top speed of 75mph on solely electric power.
As previously mentioned, BMW is now offering plug-in versions of their models and the 2017 BMW 330e has recently become available as a part of that lineup. The 3 series vehicle features the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s in the X5, and has the same 14 miles of electric range. One significant detail is the incredible technology of the GPS system, which calculates traffic, the route, and how it will split the dual power sources during any trip.
